Bank Details for Overseas Donations
US Donors may wish to donate via the BSUF
If you live in the USA, you can make a donation to St George’s via the British Schools and Universities Foundation, stating that you intend the donation to be allocated to St George’s Weybridge. Please complete form below:
The BSUF serves as a ‘catalyst for tax efficient funding’ by US taxpayers towards educational institutions in Britain and the Commonwealth Countries. It enables US residents and taxpayers to make a full contribution without being taxed, in a similar way to the service that ‘Gift Aid’ offers UK residents.
A wide range of British schools offer the services of the BSUF to their friends and alumni including; Benenden School, Cranleigh School, Eton College and Godophin and Latymer.
A donation to the BSUF needs to clearly state the educational institution it is intended for, and can be by cash, cheque or credit card. The BSUF will accumulate small gifts for a particular establishment until there is enough to make a significant grant, this way alleviating constant bank fees.
More information can be found on their website or please get in touch with either Caroline Long at giving@stgeorgesweybridge.com in the Development Office or our OG US Representative, Michael Findlay at mfindlay@aquavellagalleries.com if you have any queries.
To make a Gift Aid donation, you must pay at least as much Income Tax and/or/ Capital Gains Tax as the amount of tax reclaimed by the School. This is currently 25 pence for every pound donated.
For more information about Gift Aid, please visit the HMRC website or contact the Development Office at giving@stgeorgesweybridge.com.
Donors paying higher rate tax can claim the difference between the higher rate of tax (40 and/or 45 %) and the basic 20% rate of tax on the total gross value of the donation. You can make this claim on your self-assessment tax return by completing the section on Gift Aid payments.
Otherwise, details can be given on form P810 Tax Review. The tables below show how Gift Aid can increase the total donation the St George’s receives. They also illustrate how tax relief can reduce the net cost of the donation to you.
If you are a 45% rate tax payer, you donate £10,000, St George’s receives £12,500 thanks to the addition of 25% Gift Aid. The tax relief you receive reduces the donation ‘cost’ from £10,000 to £6,875.
Many companies now operate gift matching schemes. When an employee makes a gift to a registered charity, the company may match this donation, in full or in part.
To find out if your company operates such a scheme and to obtain a copy of their matching gift form, please contact your Human Resources or Personnel Department.
Leaving a gift in your will to St George's Weybridge to support future generations of Georgians
St George's Weybridge is a thriving school with excellent pupil numbers and success in many areas from academic achievement, accomplishment on the sports field and an ethos that continues to promote a strong sense of community and family. One of the best ways we can ensure that St George's continues to progress and continues to provide the very best preparation for life for future generations of students is to plan for the future. Leaving a gift in your Will to St George's would make a huge difference to the School's ability to provide for student sin need of financial assistance with fees via our Assisted Places Scheme Fund, as well as the continuous need for improvements and the development of buildings and facilities without the drain on fee income.
If the time is ever right to include a gift in your Will to St George's Weybridge, please add a codicil to your latest Will. Whatever support you can give, small or large, will make a difference. Through the generosity of members of the Georgian family, two full Assisted Places will be offered in 2017 to new 11+ students who would otherwise not benefit from a St George's education. 100% of their fees will be paid over their seven years at the College. The Assisted Places Scheme Fund offers fee assistance to academically able boys and girls whose parents cannot afford to pay school fees.
Gifts of listed stocks and shares by UK tax payers attract full relief from Capital Gains Tax and, in addition, allow the donor to claim income Tax relief on the full value of the gift at the time the shares or securities are transferred to the School. Do get in touch if you would like to receive in-depth advice on this type of gift.
All parents of students leaving St George’s at the end of their Upper Sixth year are asked to support our Leaver’s Fund. We do this by asking them to donate the deposit they paid when their child joined the School to our Assisted Places Fund.
Normally, deposits are refunded with your last invoice at the end of the summer invoice. We write to parents before this, at the end of your child’s last Christmas term at St George’s, asking you for your express permission to waive this refund and make a donation to the Assisted Places Fund.
Each year, we have a very generous response from parents and we hope we can continue to increase the number of parents who choose to support St George’s in this way.
These donations enable the Headmistress to offer financial support to a greater number of talented students. These students come from families who simply cannot afford our fees here at St George’s but for whom our education would be highly rewarding, and perhaps even life changing.
